A funny thing about Nancy Drew is that even though I read all her books, there was that unwritten rule that Nancy Drew was for girls and Hardy Boys were for boys, so I've never read a Hardy Boys book. The boys in my class were very firm on this point. Calvin and Hobbes was also "for boys" for some reason (probably because Calvin hates girls), and so was a series of books called Dragon Lance. The Dragon Lance books always had some mega buff dude on the cover doing hero stuff, and though I was curious about them and maybe a little jealous since I was stuck reading Sweet Valley High, I suspect that in the end they were probably pretty bad.
Fundraiser info again, it's coming up soon: The fine charity organization Women for Women. is linked to this event - The Run for Congo Women. It's a series of running events held in different cities, with the proceeds going to help Congolese women rebuild their communities. How awesome! Conveniently, I am moving to New York just before the run there. So I am doing it! Would you like to join? We started a team - Liz Baillie and I (and check out her comic if you're unfamiliar!) - and it's called 'Team Comics.' So original. You can register here, just be sure to join our team in the form, if you want to come with us! Or write to me is you have any questions! Or heck, go on your own. It's only a 5k run, not a crazy marathon, so don't worry about being super athletic! Just come out and have some fun, and we can raise some money for a good cause. For those who would like to sponsor us with donations, you can do that here. As I say on the fund raising page there, to be able to do something as a community of artists and readers is truly wonderful. So, let's try! |
